Can we really be expected to feel grateful during a year like this one?!
It's way easier to come up with a list of things to be thankful for when life is going well. The challenge can be to recognize blessings when it feels like nothing is going the way we planned.
As I tell our Hilliard Taekwondo Academy students, you tend to find what you look for, and right now it's easy to find plenty of things to complain about. It may take a little more work to find things that make us feel gratitude and joy, but those things are there.
I saw a meme that asked us to consider what life would be like if we woke up one morning and only had the things we'd expressed gratitude for the previous day. That made me realize how much I would miss warm fuzzy socks, indoor plumbing, coffee, and so much more.
When we complain and grouse and grump around, we tend to make everyone around us crankier. Recognizing the blessings we have and thanking those who have helped us helps send ripples of positivity out into the world.
Are you a "that can't be done" or a "Let's figure out how to make that happen" person? Are you pouting or persevering? Are you bashing or blessing others? Are you someone others will be expressing gratitude for during this season?
You may not be spending this holiday season the way you thought you would (I didn't expect to be celebrating holidays with my family via Zoom ... which reminds me that Zoom is one of the things I'm grateful for), but however you spend it, I hope you have time to relax and appreciate the blessings you have.
Whatever each day brings, I hope you have many positive moments!
